Indian River County Jail Roster Overview

The roster is published and maintained by the Indian River County Sheriff's Office Department of Corrections. The public page at ircsheriff.org carries a running count of current inmates, which read 446 on June 3, 2026, along with daily lists of new bookings. There is no fee and no login. The page also links directly to a victim-notification service and to the daily mugshot lists.

The county roster covers one slice of custody. It shows pretrial detainees and people serving county jail sentences of a year or less. It does not show sentenced felons who have moved to state prison, people in federal custody, or immigration detainees. Each of those groups uses a separate locator, covered further down this page. The roster is the same record families, bondsmen, and victims rely on, and it links directly to a victim-notification service for custody alerts. The booking profile itself warns that a booking is not a conviction and sends readers to the courthouse for final charge outcomes.

How to Use the Indian River County Inmate Roster

The roster opens to a search box and the recent-booking lists. The official page is the IRCSO inmate search. A last name is enough to begin, and a booking number narrows it to a single event.

1. Open the inmate search at ircsheriff.org/inmate-search.
2. Type the person's last name, adding a first name or date of birth if the name is common.
3. If you have a booking number from a call or court file, search it directly.
4. Scan "Today's Bookings" or "Yesterday's Bookings" when the arrest is very recent.
5. Click the name to open the booking profile and read charges, bond, case number, and disposition.

The "Today's Bookings" and mugshot lists update through the day, so a very recent arrest may show there first.

A booking profile is detailed. Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates

The county roster is the first stop, not the only one. Pretrial detainees and people serving short county sentences show on the sheriff's roster. A person sentenced to a felony term over a year leaves for state prison and appears in the Florida Department of Corrections offender search instead. Federal prisoners use the Bureau of Prisons locator, and immigration detainees use the ICE system. Knowing which system holds the person saves a lot of wasted searching.

Why an Inmate May Not Appear on the Indian River County Roster

A blank result does not always mean a mistake. The sheriff's inmate search states up front that it will not return sealed or expunged records, anything booked before August 1, 2005, or a person whose age at booking was under 18. Those are standing exclusions, not glitches. A very recent arrest may also be missing simply because intake is not finished, since the roster needs a completed booking before a profile goes live.

Custody level is the other common reason. A person sentenced to state prison drops off the county roster and reappears in the Florida Department of Corrections offender search. Someone in federal or immigration custody never shows on the county roster at all. A few practical checks help when a name does not come up.

• Confirm the spelling and try a partial last name.
• Check whether the arrest is recent enough that booking may still be in progress.
• Consider whether the case could be sealed, expunged, juvenile, or pre-2005.
• If the person was sentenced, search the state offender locator instead.
• If a federal agency made the arrest, check the federal or ICE locator.

Note: a person can also be held under another agency's hold or detainer, which keeps them in jail even when the roster shows a bond.

Indian River County Booking Records Requests

When a booking is too old for the roster or a certified copy is needed, the sheriff's records unit is the route. Florida's open-records law lets anyone ask for booking records and booking photos, and the agency accepts requests by email, phone, mail, or in person. The records page lists a one-dollar fee for each booking photo and fifteen cents per page for ordinary incident or accident report copies. Larger photo or bulk requests carry a two-hundred-dollar minimum deposit, and body-worn camera footage carries a one-hundred-dollar deposit, with a final quote provided after the deposit.

Court outcomes are a separate request. The sheriff holds arrest and booking records, while the Clerk of the Circuit Court holds the case file, charges, and final disposition. Booking Process in Indian River County

An arrest does not put someone on the roster right away. After an arrest by the sheriff, a city police department, or the Florida Highway Patrol, the person is transported to the county jail at 4055 41st Avenue for intake. Staff record identity and demographics, take a booking photo, and assign a booking number and a case number. A commissary number is set up for deposits and tablet services. Medical and mental-health screening happens at intake, and the sheriff says care is provided free regardless of ability to pay.

Bond and first appearance come next. If a judge has not set bond, the person waits for first appearance, which the clerk says is held every morning at 8:30 a.m. at the courthouse, including weekends and holidays. Until booking is complete, a person may not yet appear on the public roster, and under-18, sealed, or pre-2005 records will not show at all.

Visitation Hours and Rules

Visits run through Smart Communications, and visitors must register, upload a photo ID and a selfie, and be approved before scheduling. On-site video visits happen only on Fridays in Visitation Building "K." Remote video visits from a home computer or phone are available in set windows most of the day. Visits cannot be booked more than 72 hours ahead, run in 30-minute blocks, and are capped at two hours a week with one visit per day.

Note: schedule a visit before 11:00pm through Smart Communications to keep the next day's slots open, since later requests can miss the cutoff.

How to Contact an Indian River County Inmate

Personal mail and tablet messaging both run through Smart Communications. General letters go to the Department of Corrections post office box in Seminole, Florida, with the inmate name and booking number printed clearly. Privileged mail from attorneys, courts, and public officials goes instead to the physical jail address on 41st Avenue. Effective November 1, 2025, the jail stopped accepting books from stores and now provides reading material on tablets. Only letters are accepted, with no packages or clothing.

The video and messaging vendor is Smart Communications, which handles registration, scheduling, and tablet mail. After release, a person can log in there with an inmate number and password to download saved photos, messages, and postal mail for free.

That portal is the controlling channel for remote visits and messaging, so an account there is usually the first step for family contact.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Money is deposited through the TouchPay and GTL portal using the facility locator number 232960, plus the inmate's full name and commissary number from the roster. Deposits are accepted online, by phone at (866) 232-1899, or in cash at the jail visitation-center kiosk. Visa or Mastercard debit cards and electronic checks are accepted, but money orders and cashier checks are not. The jail notes that deposits first cover any booking fee and outstanding debt before money reaches the canteen account, and Aramark answers account questions weekdays at (772) 978-6304.

The deposit portal is TouchPay / GTL online pay. For online bond payments, select "BOND" rather than canteen so the funds route correctly.
